5 fast facts about mobility trends

Technology-driven trends greatly impact how industry players respond to consumer mobility behaviour. Today, mobile technologies like smart devices and smartphones are more than just disruptive. They are making generations rethink how they work and interact. Read on to discover five mobility trends that are already shaping the car industry today:

1. Changing mobility behaviour

There is nothing new about the fact that consumer mobility behaviour is rapidly changing. People now use various modes of transport (bike, train and taxi) and on demand-mobility solutions to get from A to B. That’s why one out of ten cars sold in 2030 will be a shared vehicle. Another big challenge for the car industry will be providing specially-equipped vehicles to accommodate consumers’ new preference for using the type of mobility they want when they want it.

2. The rise of connectivity

As innovations skyrocket, the car industry will rapidly change. Connectivity – and later the self-driving car – will take the driving experience to a whole new level. The car industry has observed a growing demand for connecting cars and by 2020 381 million of them are expected to be on the road . Though public transport options, such as bus, train and subway, will also transform with the Internet of Things (IoT), IoT’s focal point in the mobility industry will be the connected car.

3. Connecting mobile apps to analytics

Data collected in connected cars will help companies optimise services and analytics for their customers. For the car industry, connecting mobile apps to enterprise platform analytics will become more and more important. Why? Because doing so grants easy access to sales and services. For example, companies can acquire detailed insights into cost, fuel and time efficiency. Further, they can benefit from more accurate maintenance scheduling, and make smarter business decisions based on CO2 and fuel reports. The trick will be to tap into these benefits without creating a Big-Brother-like atmosphere for employees.

4. Security and risk awareness

As we all know, mobile apps can be a huge risk to an enterprise’s data pool. Enterprise IT is facing new challenges as it conflicts with mobile enterprise devices that use corporate resources and data. That’s why every mobile app and connected system must be a closed system to ensure corporate information is not at risk. Because security is so important, companies must rely on strong, effective and secured applications.

5. Collaborating with competitors

In comparison to industries such as telecommunications, car industry players have yet to join forces together. As mobility shifts to services, car manufacturers will have to compete on multiple fronts. Because OEMs need to remain at the innovation forefront, partnerships with mobility providers, tech giants such as Google and specialty OEMs like Tesla will grow.

We at Alphabet are excited to see how these mobility trends will shape the future. Currently with Alphabet’s AlphaGuide, we are making an innovative contribution by bringing clients and users one step closer to future mobility.
